ARIYA GHOSHAL:
SURREALIST VISUAL ARTIST AND DESIGNER
Hi, I am Ariya Ghoshal and I am currently studying Art and Data Science, Statistics at UCLA! I love the balance of being able to exercise both the creative side of my brain through design, and the analytical side of my brain through data analysis. I love research, and engaging in user studies to help inform my designs!

Why Art?
My love for art takes shape when walking through the quiet and curated SFMoma, or taking in the graffiti street art covering the walls of my favorite Ethiopian restaurant, Enssaro, in Oakland. From the bold strokes of Diego Rivera’s murals at the Moma to the detailed tapestry depicting the ancient Indian female warrior, Queen Vishpala, that hangs on my grandmother’s wall, art can be a time capsule. I believe that art is the most honest guide to history, showing how people saw the world, considered their values, and examined their struggles. It can reveal a person’s deepest desires and the most private corners of their minds. As Tracy Emin says, “True art should resonate. It should make you feel it's not a picture. It's not a thing. It's not an object. It is a true thing that has energy. That's what makes it art.”
